Garden Prep in a Missouri Spring: Patience is Key at RGM Farms

Writer: Chuck and Donna RayChuck and Donna Ray

Crawford County gardeners know that spring is a season of anticipation. At RGM Farms, we're itching to get our hands in the soil, but we also know that patience is crucial in our unpredictable Missouri climate. With daffodils bravely peeking through a layer of snow and ice still forming on water tubs, it's clear we're not quite ready for full-scale planting.

Right now, we're focusing on the foundational tasks: cleaning up garden beds, checking tools, and planning our planting layout. While the ground is still too cold and wet for planting, this is the perfect time to start seeds indoors and ensure we're ready when the weather breaks.

We’re keeping a close eye on the long-range forecast and waiting for consistent warmer temperatures. The daffodils are a sign of hope, but we’re not rushing. We know that a late frost can be devastating.

What are your early spring garden prep tasks? Share your tips and experiences in the comments!
